Washington Demon girls’ track and field finished third in the team scoring yesterday at the Panther Relays in Mount Pleasant. Washington’s 87 points would be over 40 behind the winners from Mount Pleasant and 31 shy of second-place Williamsburg.

The Demons were led by their relay teams, as they finished second in both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200-meters while also taking third place in the 4-by-800. Sophomore Jaedyn Moore added a pair of silver medals in the open 200 and 400.

Sophomore Greyson Hartman once again led the Washington boys at Mount Pleasant with a victory in the shot put, hitting the top toss of 52 feet 10-and-a-half inches in his last warmup before he competes in the event later this week at the Drake Relays.

The Demons also came away with a win in the distance medley, posting the top time of an even 3:40. Washington was also third in the shuttle hurdles and both the 4-by-200 and 4-by-800.

Seth Shepherd was second in the 400 for the Demons, while fellow senior Tyler Alderton won bronze in the 1,600, as did junior Sawyer Tschantz in the two-mile and sophomore Brady Krantz in the discus.

The Winfield-Mount Union girls also competed at the Panther Relays and were led by sophomore Kynlee Buffington’s runner-up finish in the long jump. Senior Josie Nelson was third in the 100-meter hurdles for the Wolves, while freshman Josie Dykstra had the WACO Warriors’ best finish by taking fourth in the 400 hurdles.
