Mid-Prairie is one step closer to its new wrestling facility. The school board held a public hearing on the project and accepted a bid package for the construction of a new wrestling facility at its meeting on Monday.
The board officially set a budget for the 12,960 square foot facility at $5.59 million. The Mid-Prairie board accepted seven bids totalling $3.85 million, which includes utilities, concrete, masonry, general construction, roofing, HVAC and electrical.
The remaining $1.7 million budget will include other costs like architectural fees and contingencies. During the meeting, board president Jake Snider mentioned the potential to need to store materials as construction companies try to acquire them early amidst uncertainty concerning tariffs levied by the current federal administration.
The new facility will have enough space for three wrestling mats, a weight room, locker rooms, several restrooms, storage area and concession stands.
The board approved both the construction specifications and the bid package unanimously.
