Pleasantview Home in Kalona will be host to a health fair on this Thursday, April 17. The fair will be open exclusively to Pleasantview residents from 1 to 3 p.m. and will be open for the public from 4 to 6 p.m.

The fair, which was organized by a quartet of University of Iowa nursing students, Nora Sweeney, Natalie Stauber, Andrea Schneberger and Melanie Tran Duong, is designed to connect residents both at Pleasantview and in the Kalona community at-large with health resources in the city and the county.

Sweeney says the planning experience has helped her understand the needs of and resources available to the community of Kalona, “It opened our eyes to different needs that are in the community and working on illness prevention rather than treatment, finding ways that people can stay in their homes.”

Participating entities will include Washington County Public Health, Washington County Hospital and Clinics, One-to-One Pharmacy, Kalona Family Counseling, Kalona Fire Department, Pleasantview Dietary, Blue Stone Therapy, and Bright Futures Chiropractic. The fair will also feature a keynote speech by Dr. Chris Greer at 5 p.m.
