Henry County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Sunday at around 3:32 p.m. on Highway 34 near Westwood.
According to the sheriff’s department, driver Vinny M. Mawete of Galesburg, Illinois, was traveling westbound near mile marker 229 when his vehicle veered off the road and collided with a rock wall on the side of the road.
Mawete sustained minor injuries during the crash and was transported by Henry County Emergency Medical Services to the Henry County Health Center. He was evaluated and released.
Upon his release, Mawete was taken into custody. He was cited for failure to maintain control, operating a non-registered vehicle, failure to provide proof of financial liability, no valid driver’s license, and driving with an open container. He is also under investigation for operating while intoxicated, pending laboratory results, which Henry County Sheriff Rich McNamee says can take as long as 6-8 weeks.
