Firefighters responded to a house in Washington on Tuesday at the corner of East Main Street and 11th Avenue. At 4:34 p.m. authorities were notified of a fire in a basement at 1026 East Main Street. The caller advised that all residents were away from the fire.

Washington Fire Department, Washington EMS, Kalona Fire Department, Ainsworth Fire Department, Riverside Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, Washington Police, and the State Fire Marshall assisted at the scene.

At 8:30 p.m. emergency crews were seen still on-site entering the two-story single-family home. 

The intersection was closed for some time while emergency crews worked at the scene.
