The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls soccer team traveled to Grinnell Tuesday for their first match of the year, falling by a 6-0 score. The Tigers jumped up early, scoring five times in the first half, and adding another after break. Katelyn Sieck led the Tigers with four goals, Taylor Smith had a pair of assists, and Maryn Sherman recorded the win in goal with seven saves. Grinnell had 17 shots on goal to the Golden Hawk’s three and won corner kicks 5-2. Mid-Prairie was led by Ruth Whittoft’s 10 saves and Avery Helmuth with three shots on goal. The Golden Hawks are 0-1 on the year and host Solon Friday. Grinnell is 1-0 and travels to Center Point-Urbana Tuesday.
