The Mid-Prairie boys soccer team is on the road for the first time in the young season when they travel to Williamsburg Thursday. The Golden Hawks are 0-1 on the year after a 2-0 setback Tuesday at home to Highland where Jacob Flynn led on the stat sheet with seven saves in goal. Peyton Fox, Kale Miller and Adrian Sanchez each accounted for a shot on goal. The Hawks were 10-8 a season ago, scoring 30 goals and giving up 29, with 24 total assists, 145 shots on goal, 64 corner kicks, five made Pks and an 81% team save percentage. Fox, was an honorable mention All-River Valley Conference selection last year as a sophomore, leading Mid-Prairie with seven goals, including a playoff hat trick. He also had 36 total shots, 22 on goal. In the postgame Tuesday, Golden Hawk head coach Wyatt Cady talked about how his team can bounce back, “Watching film and understanding the formation. Teammates were there, but the players with the ball at their feet just didn’t see them. In the future, hopefully we can understand where they’re supposed to be and find that pass quicker. We need to put shots on frame. It’s a little frustrating to see all of those shots fly over.”
Williamsburg is 0-0-1 after a Tuesday 2-2 tie at Fort Madison. The Raiders were 14-3 last year, 8-2 champions of the WAMAC West Conference. They scored 53 times and gave up 12 goals on 176 shots on goal, 78 corners, with 137 assists, 120 saves and a 92% save percentage. Leading goal scorer Max Wodianka and his 22 goals have graduated but second leading scorer Braysen Doehrmann is back after 14 goals a year ago. He was the team leader in 2024 with 11 assists. The Raiders also lose Logan Rethswisch in goal who made 117 saves in just under 1200 minutes. Williamsburg won this game in Wellman a year ago 2-0. Action starts tonight at 5p.m. At Bob Murphy Stadium in Williamsburg.
