Severe weather paid a visit to southeast Iowa late Wednesday morning. At approximately 11:45 a.m. the National Weather Service Office in the Quad Cities issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Washington, Henry and Louisa Counties until 12:30 p.m. for winds up to 60 miles per hour and large hail. Trained weather spotters in Jefferson County reported hail nearly three quarters of an inch in diameter near Fairfield. Dime-sized hail was seen at the KCII studios in Washington and reported at Highland High School near Riverside. Following the storm, Alliant Energy reported nearly 100 customers were without power in the Wayland area. The city of Washington received a quarter inch of rain. Three members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded with live on-air coverage. Had the power gone out, coverage would have continued with backup generators.

Highs Thursday are expected to be in the upper 40s. Stay tuned to KCII for weather updates.
