A third Washington County man has been arrested and faces felony charges related to a beating that happened at the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall in December. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, authorities arrested 37-year old Jared James Reed of Crawfordsville on Friday evening. Reed has been charged with participating in a riot and willful injury causing a bodily injury, both are class D felonies.
According to court documents, Reed and two other men followed the victim after a “mutual physical altercation” on the pedestrian mall on December 14th. Allegedly, one of the men held the victim’s arms behind their back while another one hit the victim’s face; and the three men proceeded to punch, kick, and stomp the victim once they had fallen to the ground, even after the victim was unconscious. The victim sustained multiple injuries including lacerations that required stitches.
The other two men were Ryan Maschmann and Landan Provino, both of Wayland. They were arrested earlier this year and authorities had been looking for a third person connected to the incident.
Court proceedings are ongoing.
