The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls and boys track teams started the season with a bang and six State titles last week at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor State Championships in Ames. The Golden Hawk girls were 2A team champions with their score of 52, edging out Pella Christian’s 50. In her first ever high school meet, freshman Jeorgia Evans was a multi-time state champion. She’s the fastest girl in 2A, winning the 60m dash championship in a blistering 7.77 seconds, a new meet record. Evans also won the 2A long jump championship, flying 17’10”, to set a new meet record, qualify for Drake and break a 49 year old Mid-Prairie record. Other top Golden Hawk girls performances included state runner-up for the 4×800 of Rachel Hostetler, Brooklyn Stutzman, Rebekah Wallington and Kendal Landstrum. Third for Evans in the 200, third for the 4×1 team of Evans, Tessa Bombei, Myli Hershberger and Ruby Miller. Fourth for the shuttle hurdle of Sophie Miller, Ruby Miller, Bombei and Sarah Crowner. Fifth for Stutzman in the 3000. Sixth for Hostetler in the 1500. Ninth for the 4×4 of Ruby Miller, Kyrie Poll, Hannah Rodgers and Hostetler. Twelfth each for Bombei in the high jump and Harper Pacha in shot put, 14th for the sprint medley of Sophie Miller, Rodgers, Hershberger and Ruby Miller, 19th for Sophie Miller in the 60m hurdles, 21st for Kendal Landstrum in the half mile, Claire Trimpe 39th in the 60m hurdles and 44th for Bombei in the 60m dash.

The Mid-Prairie boys were sixth in the team standings with 26 points, Treynor won the title with 58. A trio of Golden Hawks took State titles including Emmett Swartzentruber in the two mile at 9:55.46, Burke Berry in the shot put throwing 52’10.25” and Jayden Stafford in the wheelchair 200 at 33.61 seconds. Other top performers for the boys were sixth for Ryan Henry in the 60m dash. Eighth for Preston Yutzy in the mile, same for Tommy Miller in shot and the 4×800 of Thomas Flynn, Max Swartzentruber, Max Kipp and Yutzy. Max Swartzentruber was ninth in the 3200, 10th for the distance med of Henry, Kaden Kos, Nolan Jergens and Emmett Swartzentruber, Josh Turner was 12th in high jump, as was Thomas Flynn in the 800. Cash Brown was 16th in the high jump and the 4×4 with Jergens, Kos, Brown and Flynn were 24th.

The Golden Hawk boys and girls are now off until March 25th for the River Valley Conference Indoor Championships at the University of Dubuque.
