A Columbus Wildcats softball star will be continuing her career at the junior college level. Lily Coil officially signed Wednesday to play at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.

Coil has been an All-State caliber player throughout her high school tenure at Columbus, especially as a pitcher, which she will continue to do at the next level. Last season, Coil pitched in 10 games and had an impressive 2.45 earned-run average, piling up 59 strikeouts in over 54 innings of work.

Coil has a 2.72 ERA and almost 200 K’s in her career in the circle for the Wildcats. She tells KCII Sports that she feels she’s heading to similar success by joining the Blackhawks because of a welcoming atmosphere.

“It’s kind of like a feeling of being at home when I talk to the coaches,” Coil says, “and how patient they were with me [while] I made my decision. They just made me really feel at home, and that’s what I wanted.”

Coil has also been a terrific hitter for Columbus, batting well over .500 for her career and hitting .623 with 10 doubles and 21 runs batted in last season. In addition, Coil starred for the Wildcats on the basketball court, leading the team in scoring and rebounding this past season on her way to being named the 2025 Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Player of the Year.
