Columbus Wildcat hoops standout Lily Coil has a chance to wear the blue and white one more time on the court this weekend. Coil has been selected to the Class 2A Gray team for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Larry Niemeyer Senior Game Saturday. Coil, this year’s Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division Player of the Year, helped lead the Wildcats to their first ever girl’s basketball Superconference North Championship. She will continue her athletic career next year playing softball at Southeastern Community College.
Coil finished eighth in Class 1A with 58 made three pointers this season, including seven made threes, a new school record, in a win over state-ranked Highland this year. Her 354 total points were third in the Superconference North. Coil finished fourth in conference with 87 steals and 58 made free throws. Her 197 rebounds and 119 total made shots were each fifth in the SEISC. Her Gray team teammates Saturday include Chloe Denton of Shenandoah, MaKenna Steiger of East Sac County, Shay Lemke of ACGC, Sydney Andersen of North Mahaska, Ashlyn Davis of Westwood Sloan, Josie Kuper of AGWSR, Breanne Patterson of South Central Calhoun, Bianka Ronnebaum of Maquoketa Valley and Reagan Seuntjens of MVAOCOU. The team is coached by Jeff Douglas of I-35 Truro.
Games are this Saturday at Cedar Falls High School.
