The Washington School District’s attendance rate has been impacted by illness recently.
At the school board meeting on Tuesday, Superintendent Willie Stone commented on the January attendance numbers citing multiple different sicknesses going through the school district, “Attendance wise the last month, you can see that we have dropped pretty dramatically. We have had this last month, and most of the people know influenza has gone through our buildings, strep went through our buildings, and Covid has gone through our buildings, so, it’s been just a rough month medically for our students. We are still ahead from where we were last year at this time, by twenty-eight students which will equal out to about thirty-one thousand more educational hours throughout the whole year that we will have.” Overall, the chronic absenteeism is still lower for the district compared to last year’s numbers.
