The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team kept their momentum rolling into the playoffs Tuesday by finishing off Fairfield in their regular season finale 68-59. After a back-and-forth first few minutes, the Golden Hawks put together an 11-0 run to take the lead at 20-18 going to the second period. The advantage was still a pair at the halftime break at 37-35. The Trojans used a 7-0 third quarter run to take a brief lead in the second half, but Mid-Prairie was up 54-49 going to the fourth, and closed the game on a 10-2 sprint that slammed the door. Golden Hawk of the game, sophomore guard Brooks Weber joined the KCII Postgame Show live Tuesday to talk about the keys for the Hawks in the win.

Weber said, “We got out and ran well tonight. We did a good job getting to the rim. We worked hard on the glass with good offensive rebounds and putbacks. Second chance points are huge. Shout out to our guys inside that got after it rebounding. It was a physical game, but we’re a tough team and when it gets to those moments, we dig deep and find ways to fight through. It was a full team effort tonight!”

The Golden Hawks won turnovers 16-12 and the glass by seven. The Hawks had seven players score, with three in double figures, led by Bryce Henry’s 19 points and four steals, Brady Weber had 10 points and five assists, Ace Peck added 10 points. Conner Wiles led with eight rebounds. Riley Perkins and Eli Zillman each had 15 points for Fairfield. The Golden Hawks finish the regular season at 17-4 as Fairfield drops to 5-14. The Golden Hawks will next be in action in the Class 2A district tournament Thursday, February 20th, when they host the district semifinals.
