
The Hillcrest Academy Raven girls basketball team fell in their regular season finale Friday at Van Buren, dropping a Southeast Iowa Superconference Shoot Out game to the home Warriors 59-54. Van Buren led 15-11 after one and still held the four point advantage at 27-23 at half. The Warriors stretched the lead to nine after three at 45-36. Hillcrest made it push to get back within two possessions down the stretch but ran out of time on their comeback.
The Warriors won the boards by 12, had 17 assists and 16 steals. Each team finished with 20 turnovers. The Ravens had 15 steals and 10 team assists. Van Buren got a pair of double doubles with Addison Brauns posting 19 points and 11 boards and Callie Kracht 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Ravens put a trio in double figures led by 15 points, seven boards and five steals from Malia Yoder. Claire Withrow poured in 13 with five assists and Niva Helmuth 11 points and six steals. Van Buren is now 10-10 on the year, as the Ravens drop to 10-11. Hillcrest will next be in action in the 1A regional tournament Thursday when they host New London.
