The Keota Eagles swept a home conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday with Belle Plaine. Keota jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the girls’ game, but a 23-2 run to finish the first half is where they seized total control on their way to a 69-17 victory.
Freshman Cameron Haifley had the best game of her young career for Keota, hitting five three-point shots and scoring a game-high 26 points off the bench.
Sophomore Emily Conger added 11 points and three steals, while senior Kimberly Clarahan came up with 12 points, five steals and eight assists to help the Eagles improve to 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the South Iowa Cedar League.
The Keota boys led 26-11 by the end of the first quarter and more than doubled that advantage to 54-22 by halftime on their way to winning 82-37. Senior Bille Kindred did it all for the Eagles, posting 24 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and four blocked shots while also knocking down five three-pointers.
Chase Haifley hit three triples and put up 21 points and eight assists off the bench for Keota, while fellow junior Jackson Vittetoe had 10 points, six assists and four rebounds to help the Eagles raise their record to 16-3, including a 12-2 mark in conference play. Both Keota teams are off the rest of this week.
