The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team travels to West Liberty today for the River Valley Conference Championships. The Hawks have an 11-7 dual record this season. They were last on the mat Friday at their home Golden Hawk Invitational, where they finished second of 12 teams, crowning four individual champions including Austyn Sexton at 110lbs, Gabby Gingerich at 115lbs, Ashlee Farrier at 130lbs and Cassie Trimpe at 155lbs. The Golden Hawks have two ranked wrestlers in their lineup according to the latest 1A poll from Iawrestle.com, with Farrier No. 4 and Ellie Callahan No. 8 at 170lbs. Farrier is the team leader with 29 wins, including capturing her 100th career victory last week at West Branch. Others in the Golden Hawk lineup with at least 20 victories this season include Sexton, Gingerich, Mardie Berry, Trimpe and Callahan. The Hawks won the team tournament title at Wilton earlier this year. On the season, Farrier, Sexton, Callahan, Berry, Gingerich and Trimpe all have individual tournament titles. This week, Golden Hawk wrestlers Farrier, Sexton and Trimpe spoke with KCII Sports about how they are getting ready for tonight.

Sexton said, “Working hard, making sure you maintain weight.”

Trimpe continued, “Making sure we get the moves down you are comfortable with.”

Farrier finished, “We’re refining a lot of things this week and working on conditioning. At this point in the season we aren’t really trying to learn new things, you’re trying to really get down what you know.”

Joining the Hawks tonight are Iowa City Regina, West Branch, Wilton, Tipton, Durant, Anamosa, Monticello, Cascade, Dyersville Beckman, Camanche, Bellevue, Maquoketa, Northeast Goose Lake, and the home No. 8 in Class 1A Comets.
