The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team starts the second half of their season tonight when they travel to a River Valley Conference quad at Wilton against West Liberty, Tipton and the home Beavers. The Hawks have a 7-5 dual record this year after splitting four at the East Buchanan Tournament before Christmas, scoring wins over Cascade and West Delaware but falling to Osage and the home Buccaneers. Austyn Sexton has piled up a team-leading 14 wins for the Hawks, while Gabby Gingerich, Ashlee Farrier, and Cassie Trimpe all have 10 or more and Destina Moyle, Sexton, Ruby Miller, Gingerich, Maya Banuelos, Emmerson Moore, Layken Lee, Trimpe, Mardie Berry, and Ellie Callahan are all .500 or better. According to the latest Class 1A poll from Iawrestle.com, Farrier and her undefeated record are No. 6 at 130lbs while Ellie Callahan is No. 10 at 170lbs.
Tipton is 2-4 in duals this season. They have been off since finishing seventh at the Central DeWitt Tournament before Christmas where they were led by individual champions Koda Fogg at 100lbs and Saidee Hamilton at 120lbs. Hamilton has the team lead with 14 wins and Fogg, Finley Rushton, and Alyssa Lovell all have 10 or more. Rushton is ranked No. 9 at 100lbs in 1A and Hamilton is No. 7 at 125. This is the first time ever the Hawks will meet the Tigers in a dual.
West Liberty is 6-0 on the dual season. Their last action was also at Central DeWitt where they finished 11th as a team and were led by an individual title for Aileen Aragon at 125lbs. Aragaon has the team lead with 19 wins. Kiley Collins, Alivia Garcia, and Silvia Garcia-Vasquez all have 10 or more. The Comets are the No. 5 ranked dual team in Class 1A and have three ranked wrestlers in their lineup including top ranked Silvia Garcia-Vasquez at 120lbs, No. 2 Aragon at 125 and No. 9 Bricsia Garcia-Vasquez at 190lbs. The Comets beat the Hawks 42-36 a season ago.
Wilton is also 6-0 on the dual season. They won the team title at Central DeWitt before Christmas, getting individual championships from Audra Coss at 110lbs, Dale Paulson at 125, Kayden Boorn at 130, and Sydnee Bliss at 190. Coss has the team lead with 18 wins, Audrey Cummings, Natalie Hartman, Coss, Kaylyn Lopez, Josslyn Holladay, Paulson, Boorn and Bliss all have 10 or more. The Beavers have four ranked wrestlers in their lineup with Cummings No. 10 at 100, Hartman No. 12 at 105, Coss No. 6 at 110 and Boorn No. 3 at 135. The Beavers beat the Golden Hawks 42-36 earlier this season.
