columbus-logo-update-december-2024

The home of the Wildcats is getting their logo updated. Superintendent of the Columbus Community School District Dr. Michael Volk said the school board approved the fifth draft of the design and it is a front-facing Wildcat face in white, blue, and black. The consultant will be drafting additional versions including a side-facing Wildcat logo, a Lil’ Wildcat for the elementary school, and a Wordmark.

Volk states the reason for the update, “I do not look at it as ‘new branding.’ I look at it as ‘updating’ the current Wildcat logo. The need to update the current Wildcat was based on the fact that the current Wildcat was not readily reproducible. The technology was old and many printing companies refused to use the older version of the Wildcat, which was a line drawing. In fact, as it stands now, many different Wildcat logos are circulating in our community because print companies could not use the old line drawing. As a result, print companies would use Wildcat logos from colleges or sports teams that are trademarked, which is illegal.”

The new logo will be able to be reproduced and is original to the district. Columbus Community School District will be updating their print and digital materials, and as new jerseys and uniforms are purchased for teams at the school the new logo will be used.
