PAWS & More Animal Shelter in Washington will be holding an event at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 11th, to vaccinate 100 local dogs whose owners face a financial barrier to doing so. From 2pm-4pm, they will be vaccinating and microchipping dozens of dogs. KCII News spoke with Shelter Director Amber Talbot to learn more about the event, and why it is important for the community, “A lot of the time animals come into our care, and we hear time and time again that pet owners they say we don’t have a vet yet, or, they weren’t able to get into the vet. And there is a National vet shortage as well. So I mean, there is a long wait to get your pet in, especially sometimes that routine stuff is just easy to put off. But we wanted it to be accessible to people, and so this is a great event for anyone. Our goal is to do one hundred dogs, and if we have more than what we have available, then we will work hard at fundraising to do this event again, hopefully within this year or by next year for sure.”  They will be able to improve overall health and safety in the community with these free vaccines and microchips. There is no registration needed for this service, simply bring your friendly dog during the time. Participants will also receive coupons for a free nail trim from the LaundroMutt in Washington.
