The oldest continuously operating business in Washington County was recognized Tuesday, as Farm & Home Mutual Insurance Association celebrated 150 years.

This week’s Alive After Five, hosted by the Washington Chamber of Commerce, was held just outside the business at 102 South Iowa Avenue in Washington. There, guests enjoyed nice weather, refreshments, and live music from the pFat Back Boys.

After being presented with a certificate commemorating the milestone, President of the Board, Susan Fisher, shared her thoughts. “I’ve just been really proud to be a part of this. I think I’ve been on the Board since 1998. So it’s been a privilege to be a part of it and see how we’ve adjusted to the changing insurance industry. We’ve had excellent management, and I hope we have another 150 years.”

Farm & Home Mutual Insurance was officially formed when a group of farmers met on April 3, 1874. Since then, it has grown to serve 15 Iowa counties. The Chamber also recognized them as Business of the Year earlier this spring.
