Local high school athletes shined at Drake Stadium in Des Moines last weekend, but an area alum also had a moment in the sun Saturday on the blue oval. Former Hillcrest Academy standout distance runner Leah Bontrager, a sophomore at Central College in Pella, was part of the Dutch contingency to win the Iowa College Division title in the distance medley at Drake. Bontrager, along with Alivia Roerdink of Ohio, and Iowa natives Sara Goodenbour of Cedar Falls and Addison Parrott of Danville, beat the field in 12:23.83, the third fastest time in Central history.

Bontrager and the Dutch finish their regular season Friday in a triangular meet at Wartburg College in Waverly.
