At their meeting on Monday, the Columbus School Board approved a five-day calendar for the 2024-25 academic year.

Leading up to the meeting, the Columbus Community School District had been weighing the pros and cons of a four-day school week. In January, Winfield-Mt. Union, a district that shares Superintendent Michael Volk with Columbus, approved a four-day week. Keota and Highland will also operate on a four-day schedule beginning in the fall. Columbus joins Lone Tree, which rejected the option in February.

The 2024-25 Columbus School Calendar includes 175 total days and just over 1,107 hours. Iowa law requires at least 1,080 instructional hours per year. One noticeable change is that early-out days will be Wednesday instead of Friday. To view the calendar, visit the Columbus CSD website or click here.
