It’s a battle of KCII area schools in Wellman tonight when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams meet the Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcats. The Golden Hawk girls are 1-1 on the year after an exciting 2-1 overtime win at West Liberty Monday where Elise Gingerich scored both goals and Zoey Curtiss supplied the two assists. Niva Helmuth made eight saves in goal to secure the win. The Hawks dropped their opener at Solon 6-0.

Columbus/WMU is also 1-1 on the season, falling 4-0 to West Liberty in their opener, but bounced back with a 4-0 win over Wapello last Thursday. This year, Iris Garza, Yaileen Miranda, Abby Acosta and Lecet Quiroz each have a goal, and Garza, Quiroz and Frannie Sosa all have an assist for the Wildcats. Alynna Leos and Sarai Martinez have split time in goal, combining to make six saves with a 60% save percentage. Mid-Prairie has won all 14 meetings between these schools including a 1-0 victory last year on Gingerich’s game winner and a clean sheet from Kina Miller.

The Golden Hawk boys are 1-2 this year, beating Highland 2-1 to start the season before falling 2-0 to Williamsburg and 1-0 to West Liberty during the first 10 days of the year. Daniel Rodgers and Joe Hall each have a goal for the Hawks, Tucker Miller and Peyton Fox each have an assist and Hall and Jacob Flynn have split time in goal, piling up 21 total saves and an 84% save percentage.

Columbus/WMU is 0-1 this season after dropping a match to West Liberty 4-0 at home. Mid-Prairie won this match last year 1-0 on a Tucker Miller goal and a clean sheet from Andrew Kaufman.
