Last weekend, six Keota Large Group Speech events competed in the State Speech Contest at Pleasant Valley High School. Of the six, one group was named as outstanding performers and will be performing at the All-State Festival.

Chase Haifley, Jake Morris, Luke Moeller, Gavin Sieren, and Jackson Vittetoe are part of a Readers Theatre group called “Orvis Orvison”. The five received a division 1 rating at the State Contest, plus a nomination from the judges to earn their place at All-State. Sieren briefly described the performance to KCII leading up to the District Competition. “We follow the events of Orvis Orvison and it’s a very funny script. We go through different things that happen with this group of friends.”

Also performing at the State Contest for the Eagles was a one act play, two ensemble acting groups, one group improv team, and a choral reading group. Of the hundreds of speech events in Iowa each year, only about five percent of them get to perform at All-State.

This year’s All-State Speech Festival will be held on Saturday, February 17 at Iowa State University in Ames. Haifley, Morris, Moeller, Sieren, and Vittetoe are scheduled to perform for the Eagles at 1:45 p.m.
