Kirkwood’s College Credit in High School (CCHS) is designed primarily for sophomores, juniors, and seniors that count for both high school and college credit. Students can select courses in technical career areas, liberal arts, or a specific career interest area. This provides the opportunity for high schoolers to explore career sectors and learn their true passions before committing to one subject area in college. During the 2022-2023 academic year 406 students from Washington County Regional partner school districts – Washington, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Mid-Prairie, Lone Tree, Keota, Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO earned a total of 3,472 credit hours, which translates to a tuition cost-savings of $729,200. There are many benefits for students earning college credit while in high school. Students are able to experience hands-on, real-world scenarios and training. In some academies, students can earn industry-recognized certifications for immediate employment opportunities. Students experience the rigor of college coursework, are better prepared for college classes after high school graduation, and are saving money along the way.
