The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team will look to keep the good times rolling tonight with a road trip to face the Solon Spartans. The Hawks are 11-2 on the season, winners of nine straight overall, and 7-0 in the River Valley Conference after a doubleheader sweep at Wilton Monday, 8-1 and 11-1. The Hawks are ranked No. 1 in Class 2A this week in the latest poll from the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie is hitting .279 as a group with 79 runs on 95 hits, 10th most in 2A. Karson Grout is the average leader at .395 with a team best 17 hits and 14 runs scored. Alex Bean leads Mid-Prairie’s productivity with 13 driven in. The Golden Hawk pitching staff has a 2.02 ERA, fifth best in 2A, in 90 innings of work, allowing 69 hits, 26 earned runs, sixth fewest in 2A, 38 walks, and 115 strikeouts, fourth most in 2A, with a .202 opponent average. Brock Harland and Collin Miller are both 3-0 this year. Brady Weber, Joe Hall, Cain Brown and Landry Gingerich have worked 17 innings out of the pen combined without allowing an earned run.

Solon is 8-8 this year, 6-2 in the WAMAC Conference after splitting a Monday doubleheader with Marion, winning 7-5 and losing 13-3. The Spartans are hitting .285 overall with 108 runs on 107 hits. Brett White has a .455 average with 20 total hits and 16 RBI, all team bests. Blake Timmons has scored a Spartan high 25 times. Solon has driven in the fifth most runs in 3A with the fifth most stolen bases in their class. Solon’s team ERA is 3.01 in 91 innings, giving up 82 hits, 39 earned runs, walking 56, and striking out 87, with a .181 opponent average, 10th best in 3A. Kaden Hanson is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA. These two schools have split their last six meetings with Mid-Prairie winning in 2021 and 2022, with last season’s victory by a 7-4 margin.
