The best on the oval in the Southeast Iowa Superconference got together Thursday at Roth Field in Wayland for the annual Southeast Iowa Superconference track championships.

The Columbus boys brought home the school’s first league title since 2002, winning the north division crown with 183 points, beating second place Winfield-Mt. Union’s 112. Columbus had six championship events. Kaden Amigon won the 100 in 10.99 seconds and 200 in 22.27 seconds. Triston Miller won gold in the 110 hurdles in a meet record 14.25 seconds and cleared 6’4″ in the high jump to win. The Wildcat 4×100 team of Jeff Hoback, Riley Kaalberg, Miller and Amigon were winners in a meet record 42.79 seconds and the 4×800 with Tim Hills-Carrier, Tyler Humiston, Cole Storm and Damian Vergara won in 8:46.47. Other top performances included Hoback second in the 100 and 200. Vergara runner-up in the 800 and mile. Cael Phillips second in the two mile. Amigon was second in long jump. The sprint medley of Jon Miranda, Kaalberg, Hoback and Juan Chariez were second as was the shuttle hurdle with Kaalberg, Dante Zuniga, Alexander Rees and Miller. Hills-Carrier was third in the 800, Phillips third in the mile, Rees third in the 110 hurdles, third for Russell Coil in the shot put and third for the distance medley with Miranda, Rees, Humiston and Phillips. Columbus seniors Triston Miller, Dante Zuniga, Tyler Humiston and Jeff Hoback joined KCII Sports after the meet to talk about winning the team title.

Miller said, “Our big goal today was to win the conference title and we did it! We wanted to execute all of the events we can. We wanted to PR in the 4×1. That’s our leading event right now. My highlight was probably the 110 highs when I set a new meet record for the conference. ”

Hoback shared his highlight “I PR’d in the 200, that was pretty fun.”

Humiston added, “In the 4×8 I PR’d by over eight seconds. I haven’t been down that far yet. We went 7-0 as a team in the regular season and we wanted to win conference!”

Zuniga talked about his shuttle hurdle relay team, “In the shuttle, we ran a pretty good time. We got second, but we still executed.”

The WMU boys were team runners-up with six conference championship events. Winning titles were Kohlby Newsom in the 800 at 2:00.24, Gabriel Hemsworth in the 400 at 57.09 seconds, Cam Buffington in the long jump going 21’4.5″, the distance medley of Lane Genkinger, Abram Edwards, Ty Scorpil and Newsom in 3:47.28, the 4×4 with Sheaden Adams, Edwards, Scorpil and Newsom in 3:34.51 and the sprint med of Caleb Giese, Edwards, Buffington and Hemsworth in 1:40.32. Other standouts for the Wolves were Hemsworth second in the 400, third for Adams in the 400 and third for the 4×100 team of Giese, Buffington, Eli Miller and Edwards.

The WACO Boys were third with 109 points. A pair of Warrior relays brought home Superconference gold including the 4×200 of Braden Spain, Isaac Oswald, Mason and Clayton Miller in 1:36.02 and the shuttle hurdle of Oswald, Mason Miller, Louden Huisenga and Simeon Reichenbach in 1:02.63. Other top Warrior performances included seconds for Reichenbach in the 110 hurdles, Huisenga in high jump, Odee Shtefanchuk in discus and the 4×100 team of Spain, Oswald, Mason Miller and Reichenbach. Gage Samo was third in the 400 hurdles, as was Reichenbach in long jump and the sprint medley of Drew Diers, Spain, Clayton Miller and Samo.

The Lone Tree boys were sixth at 58 points, led by a runner-up from the 4×200 of Emmett Burke, Tyce Alt, Ethan Bockelman and Drew Gauley. Gauley was also third in the 100. Hillcrest Academy was eighth with 11 points. Top Raven was Owen Scott, third in high jump. Highland scored four points on the night with Jackson Schneider seventh in the 110 hurdles and eighth for the 4×100 and sprint medley teams.

Lone Tree girls had the top area girls team finish, taking second in the north with 125 points as Pekin won the title with 185. The Lady Lions roared with five championship events including Sophie Bell in the 400 in 1:06.46, Vivian Zaruba in the 800 in 2:37.88. In relays, the 4×100 team of Zaruba, Ava Christofferson, Riley Krueger and Rylee Shield were winners in 51.75 as were the 4×2 with Avery Morarie, Shield, Zaruba and Christofferson in 1:49.36 and the sprint med with Bell, Zaruba, Christofferson and Shield in 1:34.71. Other top Lions included Christofferson second in the 100 and Shield runner-up in the 200. Third for Jazmine Nino in the 1500, Krueger in the 100 hurdles and high jump and for the 4×800 team of Bell, Delanie Graap, Avery Lisk and Bella Pourry.

The Highland girls were fourth with 79 points. Sarah Burton won the Superconference long jump title at 17’1.5″. Siena Stanerson was runner-up in the 3000. Jessica Kraus took third in discus as did the sprint medley of Keely Roberts, Lorelei Lueck, Lilly Barre and Grace Prybill and the shuttle hurdle with Emma Cole, Brenna Hazelett, Mackenzie Davis and Adelynn Kleopfer.

WMU was sixth with 54 points. The Lady Wolves got conference gold from Keetyn Townsley in the 100 hurdles at 17.14 seconds and the shuttle hurdle team of Josie Nelson, Keyreanna Sharrar, Tessa Huston and Townsley in 1:12.33. Huston also finished third in the 400 hurdles and the 4×100 with Townsley, Huston, Sharrer and Aurey Meeker was third.

The Columbus girls were seventh with 53 points. Lily Coil had a pair of seconds for the ‘Cats in the 100 and 400 hurdles. The Wildcat distance medley with Claire Humphreys, Jocelyn Hernandez, Naveiah Garza and Ariana Vergara was third.

The WACO girls were eighth with 48 points. Zoey Dennler was a conference champ in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:13.21. The Warrior distance medley of McKenzie Vradenberg, Halle Shelman, Dennler and Elyssa Graber was second. Jocelyn Fulton was third in shot put.

Hillcrest Academy was ninth with 24 points. Delaney Shaw had the top finish, placing second in the 400.
