The Washington Public Library is calling explorers of all ages to join their expedition to “Read Beyond the Beaten Path” for this year’s summer reading program.
Their summer reading program lasts through the month of June, with age groups of kindergarten through second grade meeting on Monday mornings, third through fifth grade on Wednesday afternoons, and teens meeting on Monday afternoons. Youth Services Librarian Jenisa Harris says everyone who registers for the free program will get a calendar of events and a reading log, “Even if you cannot commit to the whole summer and all the programs, please sign up. The summer slide can happen to all age groups and we really want to prevent that. So if only your kiddo can just do the reading log, you can still turn that in, get great prizes. We want to send them off to the school year reading even better than when they left school, and it’s a fun, easy way to do it.”
The library will also host entertainers and groups from across the country with four events scheduled in June and July, including a juggler, a pop art workshop, drum circle, and insect zoo. Registration for summer reading is open now through May 31st, and you can find information on family events and more by visiting here.
