Staff and seniors at Hillcrest Academy are breaking out the pots and pans for the 62nd annual Chili Supper.
On Saturday, February 19th, the Hillcrest Academy senior class is inviting community members to join them for a night of community and food. The Chili Supper has been a tradition at Hillcrest Academy since February of 1960. Director of Advancement Jeremy Ours says this all started with a school cook who made chili and cheese sandwiches for a school lunch and it became a hit among the student body. He explains that with last year’s chili supper and other community meals being carry-out only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he’s excited to once again enjoy a meal with everyone, “It was tricky but we were able to do it in a way that we felt like allowed us to have successful fundraisers. But this is much better, obviously. Our school and our community has a big history of being together and that’s a big part of who we are.”
Food will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Hillcrest Union (gymnasium). This year’s menu includes the traditional chili and cheese sandwiches, potato salad, pozole and a variety of desserts. Cost is $10 per adult, $9 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for children ages 4-12, and children three and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online, at the school or from any senior student.
