Washington County 4-H’ers received various awards in horticulture, communication, and static exhibits at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.

Jackson Jets members Emma and Tyler Alderton finished strong in horticulture, with them all together receiving either first or second place in eggplant, garlic, vegetable container display, yellow onions, and country vegetable platter. In the static events, Dutch Flyers member Brennan McGuire received the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship Award for his pollinator project, and Limecreek Livewires member Halli Hershberger was awarded for outstanding sewn item for her hooked rug pillow.

Four members were awarded for excellence in educational presentations: Limecreek Livewires members Grace Puttmann for World of Books, Peighton Ford for History of the Butter Cow and Caedyn Houston for Washington County, Iowa – Where the Tall Corn Grows; Jackson Jets members Roy Carter for Behind the Scenes, and Emma Alderton for The History of 4-H and the Jackson Jets. Zoey Dennler of the Horse and Pony Club and Ally Rees of Green Acres were also rated for excellence in extemporaneous speaking. Many purple and blue ribbons were awarded overall to Washington County 4-H exhibitors. You can find more Washington County results from the Iowa State Fair here.
