The public should be mindful of some ongoing renovation work happening at the Washington Public Library following a display window that fell and caused glass shards to spread throughout the facility this past April.
Library Director Bryna Walker says they are replacing the entire library carpet through this month and July, “So just be aware that there will be some areas of the library closed. We may have to close for a couple days just because we have some machines that are going to lift our big book cases that have a lot of books in them. So that’s something that’s going to go on. We’re also going to have some glass replaced to make it a little more safer internally and do some upgrades that way so something like this doesn’t happen again hopefully, and that will also take place during the months of June and July.”
Walker says they will be posting notifications of area closures at their front entrance and on their website as they occur. The carpet and book replacement in the children and adult areas were covered by the library’s insurance. These closures will not be impacting their children’s story times which will be happening in Central Park or on Zoom in case of inclement weather.
