A Columbus City man faces a felony charge following a vehicle stop last week.

Court documents show that a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a vehicle stop at about 9:27 p.m. on May 28th at the intersection of 220th Street and Vine Avenue, northeast of Ainsworth. The suspect vehicle was found to not have a rear license plate illuminated, and the driver, 60-year-old Christopher Alan Stewart was observed having bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and an alcoholic odor. Stewart agreed to do one standardized field sobriety test which he failed, and refused to do all other tests as well as a preliminary breath test. Stewart was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail on a charge of operating while intoxicated, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. He was also charged with failure to provide insurance information and given a warning for no rear plate light. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
