As it might get messy on the roads this Saturday, Washington-area residents are encouraged to get messy in their kitchen for the Washington Public Library’s Great Library Bake Off.
Individuals and household teams can register by contacting Youth Services Librarian Jenisa Harris to get the Zoom link for the virtual event. Harris shares how else participants need to be prepared before the event, “So they are supposed to pre bake two cakes and have some chocolate frosting. They can have ingredients to make their own chocolate frosting or store bought, doesn’t matter. And then when I show them the cake they have to figure out how to assemble it by using other things to decorate their cake with that are in the pantry. So they have to kind of be creative of how are we going to make this cake look as close to the picture as we can using what we have at home.”
The teams will have 45 minutes to complete the challenge, and Harris looks forward to chatting with them during that time, reminiscent of reality baking t.v. shows. She then will choose her favorite entry based on appearance, and the winner will receive a baking themed prize. The bake off takes place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and you can email jenisa.harris@washington.lib.ia.us to register.
