Picking up right where they left off in 2020, the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team stayed unbeaten by invading Sigourney and downing the Savages 50-34 last night in the first game back from break.

The Savages hung around for a while with the score tied at 10-10 after one, but the Wolves got some cushion with a nine-point halftime lead and they stretched it to 43-23 heading into the fourth. Kyndal Townsley led the way for WMU with 14 points, Farrah Nelson had 11, and Bradie Buffington was also in double figures with 10. Kaylee Weber went off for Sigourney to finish with a game-high 20 points and Joselyn Abell added six.

The Wolves improve to 10-0 and are off until next Tuesday against Pekin. The Savages are 5-3 and host Colfax-Mingo (2-6) tonight.
