At the Keota City Council’s recent meeting, a fireworks ordinance received its third and final reading. According to the ordinance, the use or exploding of fireworks within the city of Keota is restricted to persons over the age of 18 unless supervised by a parent. The individual must not be intoxicated while discharging fireworks. That person must assume all responsibility for operation including injury, fire, property damage or death. They are only to be discharged on property owned by the individual or where permission has been given. Fireworks may not be altered in any way from the intended discharge method. They may only be legally used July 1st through the 7th from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on those days. Violations will be prosecuted as simple misdemeanors. The ordinance was passed unanimously.
