The first mission of many in the class 3A playoffs was accomplished last night by the Washington football team, as the Demons opened the postseason with a 47-6 second round victory over Keokuk at Case Field.

Fresh off pounding the Chiefs 62-8 in week seven, it was deja vu all over again with Washington jumping out to a 29-0 lead after one and 35-0 at the break. The scoring got started a minute into the game when the line opened up a huge hole for Wyatt Stout and the senior went 62 yards to pay dirt. Trashaun Willis reached the end zone from five yards out and the versatile quarterback also went out wide to catch his first receiving touchdown on a 12 yard post pattern from Ethan Patterson. Ethan Zieglowsky was a hawk defensively by intercepting a pass late in the first and took it 55 yards to the house for his third pick-six of the season. Stout had himself a highlight reel 45 yard touchdown run right before half breaking numerous tackles along the sideline. Wilx Witthoft had a receiving score and one more Willis run capped off the end zone trips in the second half to give the Demons their first home playoff win since 2014. Stout had a career night racking up 208 yards on the ground and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Willis ran for two scores, threw one, and achieved a trifecta with the receiving touchdown. The Demons finished the night with 365 rushing yards. Keokuk had 230 yards of total offense, but completed just nine of 26 passes and Demon Head Coach tells KCII Sports it had a lot to do with his lockdown secondary.

“With the coverages we play we need them to play well and we have guys that are really talented. Coach Kelly Williams does a great job and puts a lot of time in with them. Jacob Miller is a bulldog, Kasen Bailey is a pure athlete, Ethan Zieglowsky has a nose for the ball, and Spencer Sotelo has great speed. Ethan Patterson and Lucas Kroll rotate in and all of these guys do a fantastic job for us.” Lucas Kroll led the defense with 12 tackles and Thomas Bias had nine.

Washington improves to 8-0 and advance to the Round of 16 on Friday. Opponent will be announced today at noon.
