The Highland School District has partnered with the HACAP Food Reservoir BackPack Program once again to provide students with free meals on the weekends. The Hawkeye Area Community Action Program created the BackPack program in 2006 in order to provide food support to students who struggle with food insecurity while school is not in session. Students enrolled in the program will be sent home on Thursdays or Fridays with a sack filled with food items like macaroni and cheese, cereal, canned meals, fruit juice, and snacks. This program is available to all Highland students regardless of income or if they are enrolled in the free and reduced priced lunch program. A registration form for the 2020-2021 school year can be filled out and returned to the school anytime throughout the school year. Families can contact School Nurse Cindy Peiffer for more information.
