The Golden Hawks gear up for a high profile rival under the Friday night lights when they travel to Williamsburg tonight. This is the first road game of the season for the Hawks. Mid-Prairie enters play with a 2-1 overall record, winners of back-to-back contests after a 55-0 victory last week over Eddyville-Blakesburg. Mid-Prairie was led in the win over the Rockets by Kayden Reinier with nine carries for 150 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half. Reinier leads the Hawks on the ground this year with 600 yards, sixth most in the state, on just 43 carries and a best in class 2A 11 touchdowns. Vinny Bowlin is 18 of 33 through the air for 281 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. The Golden Hawks leading receiver is Cain Brown with eight catches for 96 yards. The Mid-Prairie defense is led by Justice Jones with 16 tackles. Brown, Jones and Keegan Gingerich all have one interception.

Williamsburg comes into the night, perfect on the year at 4-0. The Raiders are ranked No. 2 in class 2A in this week’s poll from the Iowa Associated Press. Last time out Williamsburg handled West Burlington Notre Dame 34-14 behind Riley Holt’s 13 carries, 92 yards and a touchdown. The Raider passing game accounted for 127 yards and four touchdowns with quarterback Levi Weldon hooking up with John Steinmetz and Carson Huedepohl. On the season, Weldon is 26 of 54 through the air for 524 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Top receiver is Steinmetz with 13 catches for 311 yards and four scores. On the ground, Holt has 322 yards and five touchdowns on 51 carries. Defensively, Williamsburg is led by Weldon’s 24 and a half tackles. This week, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh previewed the matchup with the Raiders. “Our first goal is to win the district, and that doesn’t happen unless we win this game. It’s been a while since we have beaten Williamsburg and that’s extra motivation. There’s a chance that we could see these guys down the road later in the season so we want to play well. We need to put together four quarters. They are super fast and athletic, every year. We need to contain big plays on defense and find some balance on offense to move the chains and get first downs.”

These two teams met a year ago with Williamsburg erasing a halftime deficit to take a 28-6 win. You can hear all of the action live tonight from Bob Murphy Stadium in Williamsburg, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 7p.m. and kickoff between the Golden Hawks and Raiders at 7:30 on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com.
