Schools in the KCII listening area will resume classes for the first time since March with added health measures in place due to COVID-19. While schools have chosen to adopt either an in-person or hybrid learning model, every district is requiring or recommending the use of face coverings where social distancing is not possible. The Washington, Mid-Prairie, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Lone Tree, and Winfield-Mount Union school districts will require the use of face coverings starting August 24. On the other hand, the Columbus Community, Keota, Sigourney, and WACO school districts will recommend face coverings, but not require them for students and staff.

Many districts will also give students the option to choose online learning as a way of receiving lessons. For example, over 160 students at the Mid-Prairie school district are enrolled in online learning and will be expected to participate in lessons, complete assignments, and communicate with teachers as if they were in the classroom physically.
