The Washington County Conservation Board is moving forward with an application for a $100,000 Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) grant. If awarded, this grant will be used for concrete for phase two of the Kewash Nature Trail extension project. The extension will continue from the current trail on the west side of Highway 1 all the way to the Crooked Creek Bridge. The conservation board recently applied for a $100,000 Wellmark Large Match Grant, but did not receive the funding. Executive Director Zach Rozmus has been in contact with DOT officials and says the project’s timeline is not in danger of being prolonged. Phase two of the Kewash Nature Trail will cost an estimated $550,000 with project designs to be drawn up in October.
