An attempt at their first Southeast Conference wins of the season fell short for the Washington softball team, as they were swept at Burlington on Thursday.

In game one the Demons had a 3-2 advantage after a pair of innings, but scoring in each of the final four frames allowed the Grayhounds to pull away for an 11-4 victory. Burlington belted 16 hits led by Lydia Allen-Barnes going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kaitlyn Mitchell recorded two of the three Demon hits including a home run and finished with two runs knocked in. Alexa Mitchell took the loss in the circle giving up eight earned runs in six innings of work.

Burlington wasted no time in the nightcap tallying four runs in the first and the Demon bats never got going in a 6-2 defeat. Washington scattered four hits with Ava Turner recording two RBI. Cara Linnenkamp tossed six innings giving up one earned run on five hits.

Washington is 2-7 after the game and they return to the diamond Saturday in a home tournament.
