Things were tight Wednesday at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman, but it was the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks that scored a River Valley Conference win over Durant 5-4. Pitching controlled the game early with Mid-Prairie breaking the scoreless tie in the home half of the third with a single run. They would add another in the fourth to lead 2-0. Durant battled back to steal the advantage with a three run fifth. Trailing 3-2, the Hawks evened the game with a single run in the fifth. Durant scored again in the sixth, going up 4-3, only to see Mid-Prairie rally for a pair in the bottom of the sixth and close the door on the Wildcats in the seventh. Kayden Reinier had a big day for the Golden Hawks going three for three at the plate and throwing six innings to record the win giving up nine hits and two earned runs striking out two. Collin Miller recorded the save while striking out one. Aidan Rath, Chris Miller, Brad Tornow, Vinny Bowlin and Monte Slabaugh all drove in one. With the win, the Hawks improved to 4-2.
