The Highland boys and girls of summer were back on the diamond Thursday night against Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Louisa-Muscatine and the Huskies split a pair of contests.

The softball team had a hard time getting anything going at home against the second ranked in class 2A Falcons, as the Huskies fell 9-1. Louisa-Muscatine wasted no time jumping out to a 5-0 advantage after two innings and tacked on late to secure the victory. Abbi Stransky had the lone Highland RBI going 2-for-3 on the day. Grace Batcheller took the loss in the circle tossing four innings giving up seven runs on eight hits.

The baseball squad had a successful short trip to Letts and downed the Falcons 17-2 in five frames. They tallied three runs in the first and second inning before adding two more in the fourth and exploded for nine in the fifth to make it a short night. The team recorded 15 hits led by Bill Laughlin going 3-for-3 with three RBI and Luke Miller scored four times. Laughlin picked up the win on the bump in four innings of work giving up four hits and no earned runs.

Both Highland teams are now 2-1 and return to action Monday against Mediapolis.
