Washington County’s rate of testing for COVID-19 is nearly double the state’s overall rate. One in 55 Iowans have now been tested for COVID-19 with 9,703 positive cases, as Governor Kim Reynolds announced Monday. In total, 57,161 people have been tested as of Monday according to the Iowa Department of Public Health, or about 1.8% of the state’s population. Of those who are now ill, nearly 400 people are hospitalized in Iowa due to the novel coronavirus. Just one additional confirmed case was added to Washington County’s tally on Monday, bringing the total for the county to 149 with 111 of those cases now recovered.

There have been seven Washington County residents who have died from the virus. In total, 760 Washington County residents have been tested, or about 3.5% of the population. Washington County’s testing rate is nearly double the state’s overall rate of testing.

People are encouraged in Washington County and 21 others to continue social distancing measures through May 15th as the governor reopens some businesses at limited capacity in 77 other counties.
