Two items are on the ballot for the special election for the Washington School District Tuesday. Superintendent Willie Stone explains the physical plant and equipment levy, often called PPEL, is on the ballot and how those funds are used, “We’re wanting to continue our voted PPEL because it just pays for a lot of things that we have. We’re able to use that money to pay for basically all our technology. And also, our transportation budget, and we’re able to use that to pay for transportation. We use about $50,000 a year out of that just for general maintenance in the buildings. We’re trying to redo floors and trying to keep our buildings up to date. So, it’s really important for us, it’s important for our district. If we didn’t have that then that’s dipping into our general fund, which takes away from other things as far as teachers and programming. So, it’s something that’s very important for us to continue.” Stone says the two measures are to extend funding that’s already in place at its current rate. If it is approved the extension is for 10 year.
Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse for residents of Cedar, Franklin, Highland, Jackson, Oregon, and Washington Townships.
