Preparing for a concert brings forth many challenges, but the Hillcrest Academy Choir group has to prepare and adjust for multiple concerts in 13 venues. Twenty-six Ravens, lead by Choir Director Mike Wagner, will be traveling to perform at churches across the Midwest to perform selected pieces in their Be Still And Know I’m God Tour. Wagner tells KCII News the biggest challenge the choir has had to face during the tour, “Each church has a very, very different sort of sound to the room. I had a couple of places where I can hear the basses really loud, then another place the sopranos are really loud. The kids aren’t really doing anything different, it’s just the natural acoustics of the room. We try to get a quick warm up just so I can say, ‘Oh, ok, for this room we need more bass sound, or tenors in that one song back off a bit to balance it out a little bit.’ So, it’s a cool learning moment for the kids to listen to each other and hear each other but it’s also a little bit of a challenge. Right before we sing for the concert we have to take stock on how everything works in this new place.” The choir will be performing next at the Washington Mennonite Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington on March 1st.  A full list of tour dates, times, and locations can be viewed in this article.
