
Today is the big day for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team. Six Hawks will travel to Center Point-Urbana High School to try to qualify for the 2020 state wrestling tournament.
Senior Mason Hartley is at districts for the Hawks at 145lbs. His overall record is 19-17. Hartley was runner-up at last week’s sectional tournament in Williamsburg, winning a wrestleback to qualify. He will meet Jadyn Peyton of West Delaware in his first match today. Peyton, a sophomore is 29-5 this season and ranked No. 4 in the latest poll from thepredicament.com. Also in the bracket are Kam Royster of Williamsburg and Jerret Delagardelle of Jesup.
Junior Vinnie Bowlin will wrestle at 152 for Mid-Prairie he was a sectional champion last week at Williamsburg and comes in with an overall record of 27-6. He will face 38-5 junior Alex Casey of Anamosa. Also in the bracket are Gable Dayton of Williamsburg and Kyle Cole of West Delaware.
At 160, Mid-Prairie will send out sophomore Cael Garvey. He was runner-up last week at Williamsburg and has a 38-6 overall record. He draws No. 5 Cael Meyer of West Delaware. The junior enters with an overall record of 29-3. Also in the bracket are Nathan Keating of Anamosa and Riley Holt of Williamsburg.
At 170lbs junior Ben Meader will go for Mid-Prairie. He was a sectional runner-up a week ago and comes into the day with a 21-11 overall record. He will take on No. 1 ranked Jared Voss of West Delaware, the junior has a 29-5 overall record. Also in the bracket are No. 4 Abe Michel of Maquoketa and Will Marovets of Williamsburg.
At 182lbs senior Cory Allen advanced from Williamsburg as a runner-up and has a 37-10 overall record. He will see No. 3 Jack Neuhaus of West Delaware with a 29-3 overall record. Also in the bracket are No. 10 Austin Roos of Benton Community and Bryce Anstoetter of Dubuque Wahlert.
Mid-Prairie senior Isaac Boucher will be looking to make the return trip to Des Moines today when he is on the mat at 195lbs. Boucher is 40-5 on the season and ranked No. 8. His first match of the day will be Maquoketa junior Lane Stender with his 26-11 overall record. On the other side of the bracket are No. 1 Wyatt Voelker of West Delaware and Clark Younggreen of Mount Vernon.
Action begins at noon and continues the rest of the day at Center Point-Urbana High School.
