Nearly 340,000 works of art and writing were submitted in the 2019 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and one Highland student was selected as a winner. The organization gives out awards, called keys, to works that represent originality, technical skill, and a personal voice or vision. Rayne Foley was selected as a silver key recipient for her science fiction and fantasy story “The Prisoner ” and an honorable mention for her Flash Fiction ”The Haven.” Silver keys are given to only 7-10% of all entries, and honorable mentions are given to 10-15% of all entries. Receiving a gold key in this competition would automatically enter an individual into the national-level recognition.
