Books can be delivered directly to those who are homebound in Washington. The Washington Free Public Library has a free book delivery for those who are unable to get to the library. Library Director Bryna Walker says there are a variety of options available, “To keep your brain stimulated, if it’s something that you’ve always done, it’s a habit that you have and it’s a good hobby to have and to continue, and there’s no reason not to do that. And the nice thing is we have a huge large-print collection, so if you’re maybe having a hard time seeing we have a lot of those kinds of books. We also have a relationship with the library for the blind and for the deaf, so if there’s ever a need for that kind of a service we can get that set up for people as well in the community. And Bridges also, our e-book system, also has a font that is a larger print as well. So we can walk them through those steps of being on e-books.”

The library staff delivers to area residential facilities and there’s a temporary service for those who may have suffered an injury and are homebound for a brief time. Walker adds the books are delivered directly to residents and the staff can discuss genres, authors, or themes with patrons in order to recommend new texts. Contact the library to get your library card and get set up for the program.
